This week … calm to chaos and cold showers

Here we are at the first of November in a year that has exceeded any previous year for me in terms of challenges, and I’ve had more than a few personal ones over the years. Who hasn’t? That’s an integral part of life. As we re-enter national lockdown in the UK in the next few days, I try to reassure myself that I know the drill. Keep busy, practice self care, stay in regular touch with family and friends. Added to the list now though is ‘try not to think too much about what I’m missing’. It’s a tough call.

This week… Tarzan, treehouses, and traceability

News of a new luxury treehouse resort drops into my inbox this week. The Treeful Treehouse Eco Resort is set to open next spring in rural Nago, on the north side of Okinawa Island in Japan, one of the world’s Blue Zone Regions. Think secluded private rooms with air conditioning, nestled amongst the jungle canopy. Tarzan never had it this good.

This week… under lockdown (twelve)

First prize for trends this week goes to Bubble Tourism. It seems to be popping up everywhere. It’s likely that, in our quest to avoid busy airports and crowded planes, we will be looking to ‘travel alone, together.’ It’s all sounding very SciFi. Beam me up, Scotty.

This week … under lockdown (six)

We’re entering week seven of lockdown here in the UK. There is a tentative feeling of hope in the air. It’s like we have all been holding our breath. Finally, we’re coming to the end of a long, dark tunnel and we can breathe out once again. We’re all anticipating the re-opening of the UK like excited children before Christmas.

As we await the government’s strategy for reemergence to be announced later this week, everyone is daring to plan their own exit from lockdown. Top of my list is being with family and, more daringingly, thinking about where I’ll be able to travel to, responsibly and safely.

This week… under lockdown (five)

This week I’ve been humming that haunting hit song by The Mamas & The Papas.

Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you

In these difficult days under lockdown, I’ve been daydreaming about the beach. It’s partly because of the warm spring sunshine and also, of course, because I’m cooped up like everyone else at home, and longing for wide open spaces.
