This week… pizza, photography and life on Mars

A glorious spring week with longer days of sunshine as everything starts slowly warming up, including me. As I write this I have Abba blasting in the background and I have to keep stopping to dance around the living room. The news remains up and down but I’m definitely feeling upbeat. It’s been awhile. Hello optimism.

So I’m pleased that this week, invitations have started to trickle into my inbox. In addition to grocery deliveries and Zoom coffee mornings, I begin adding conferences and virtual events to my diary, and suddenly 2021 offers possibilities to connect with the world at large over the coming weeks.

It strikes me that 2021, however, represents the awesome opportunity for the whole of mankind. Here’s to fresh opportunities and, heavens above, how we all need that feeling of hope.

This week… so this is Christmas

I remember one year as a child when dad came home from work on 23rd December to announce that ‘Christmas is cancelled’. At the start of his career, as a textile chemist in the fashion industry in the sixties, a promised bonus wasn’t forthcoming or something similar. Four little glum faces (later to become five) reflected the disappointment that I can recall even now. History in the making. Today is Remembrance Sunday in the UK and the traditional two minutes’ silence felt particularly poignant this year. I’m feeling reflective.
